Ghosts don't exist

Ghosts do not exist. Ghost is defined as the spirit of a dead person that people think they can feel or see in a place. A ghost is also defined as the supposed apparition of a dead person or animal. Also, the meaning of ghost as popularly held to be, are the disembodied spirit or soul of a deceased person that is insubstantial and partly transparent. The reason why I say that ghost doesn’t exist because I see ghosts as merely a product of mythology, ghosts holds no place in Islam and ghosts are just hallucinations.

Ghosts are just hallucinations. A hallucination, in the broadest sense, is a perception in the absence of a stimulus. In a stricter sense, hallucinations are defined as perceptions in a conscious and awake state in the absence of external stimuli which have qualities of real perception, in that they are vivid, substantial, but happen in our head. Image formed in mind and is unintentionally transferred to the subconscious mind sometimes leads to people perceiving objects and consequently being unexplained and often bizarre in nature leading to claim that there is a ghost. The main causes for hallucinations are infrasound and carbon monoxide poisoning. Frequencies lower than 20 hertz are called infrasound and are normally inaudible, but it was concluded that infrasound can cause humans to experience bizarre feelings in a room, such as anxiety, extreme sorrow, a feeling of being watched, or even the chills. While carbon monoxide has the toxic effect that produces various systemic and neurological complications which can cause changes in perception of the visual and auditory systems, was recognized as a possible explanation for haunted houses as early as 1921. A person who are under effect of either toxic substances or their sensors being compromised, when they receive stimuli or believe that they receive a stimulus without any apparent or logical conclusions would start to wonder and speculate. With their minds confused, they would begin to think what they have perceived as ghosts while in truth, it was nothing more than their own imaginations. Because of hallucinations comes many alleged nonexistence entity known as ghosts that never exist.

Islam, as a whole, does not teach the existence of ghosts. Ghosts has no basis in the Islamic law and are no more than superstitions (Sheikh Hasanein Makhlouf, 2005). As person enters into a different world known as Alam Al-Barzakh after they died, preparing to account for all his previous deeds (Al-Ghazali). Alam Al-Barzakh is a place in transition before the coming of the Day of Reckoning, an unseen world that have no relation whatsoever with this world that we live in. Those who have gone into Alam Al-Barzarkh will never return to the world of the living as stated in the Quran: "Every soul shall taste death. And We test you by evil and by good by way of trial. To Us must you return." (al-Anbiyaa 21:36). So it would be impossible that a dead person would be able to roam about in the world of the living. Since our faith itself doesn’t approve the existence of ghost, says nothing of it, then you cannot believe that ghost exist. With the Islamic belief as basis, ghost doesn’t exist.

Ghosts are merely a product of mythology. The definition of mythologies is stories that a particular culture believes to be true and that use the supernatural to interpret natural events and to explain the nature of the universe and humanity. In modern usage, “mythology” can also mean the body of myths from a particular culture or religion. Myth is seen in other perspective as a fiction or half-truth due to their lack of evidence. For example in the pre-Islamic period, Arabs used to believe that souls of the dead and decayed bones depart and turn into a bird that roam the skies and the soul of the murdered haunt their graves calling out for vengeance. Thus, the common idea that the souls of the dead appear as ghosts traces back to false believe and were just myth. When these stories or beliefs have no support of facts or the backing of faith, they are nothing more than a mere story and to certain extant could be considered as lies or deception. Because of that, the existence of ghost should be rejected.

So as a conclusion ghosts do not exist. Perhaps as a form of entertainment it can be allowed but we should not let this deceit created from human creativity govern our lives with fear. Maybe some and maybe the whole world would find reason to disagree but all I can say that nothing could see the truth more than a clear mind free from fear and ignorance.
